We zien soms discussie over Tritium, geeft het nou nog wel of geen licht? Op VRF is deze discussie ook al tal van malen gevoerd.
[...] I think we have conclusively put to bed the theory that old Tritium dials will never glow. There is definitely something in the luminous compound that can still react with light for a short time dependent on the era of dial & luminous compound applied. BTW, I have found that if you place even a 70s-era Sports Rolex (which seem to have the least photoreactive luminous compound when compared to the 60s era) next to your night stand that when you wake up in the wee hours & your night vision is at its best, a faint green glow is still evident. As RichardNYC. has pointed out, the half-life of Tritium may be 12.32 years but that also means that if the dial containing the Tritium is 36 years old it still retains 1/8th its original radioactivity. It does not mean the Tritium is truly "dead."

Of het nog 'gloeit' is afhankelijk van allerhande omstandigheden, twee horloges van hetzelfde productiejaar kunnen verschillend reageren onder licht. Heeft waarschijnlijk 'het meest' te maken met de condities waarin het horloge gebruikt is, zit ongetwijfeld een verschil tussen een Rolex die veel buiten is gedragen of eentje die altijd in de kluis gelegen... ook gebruikte ze niet alle jaren dezelfde verhoudingen in 'het lichtgevende goedje', waar Tritium inzit.
Kortom, geeft de ene nog licht... kan de andere gewoon 'uitgeblust' zijn!
